N/Sumana Secondary School

A school under the Central Province Education Department of Sri Lanka. This mixed secondary school belongs to the Nuwara Eliya Education Zone and is located adjacent to the Colombo-Nuwara Eliya A7 main road. Talawakelle It is located about 250 meters from the city on the border of Devsiripura village. Located at an altitude of more than 3000 feet above sea level, this school enjoys a beautiful environment surrounded by scenic mountain ranges. The Upper Kotmale Reservoir is in front of the school and the world-famous Great Western Mountain Range is located at the eastern end. Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people live in the school's catchment area and nearly 600 students of all races study in Sinhala medium. The principal of this school is Mr. Francis.

History

In 1923, the Talawakelle General Trade Union took steps to establish a school in the vicinity of Talawakelle town for the education of its children. Later, due to the strong efforts of the Trade Union, it was handed over to the government and educational activities were started as a government school on 12-03-1924. In the beginningTalawakele Sinhala CollegeNamed after this school, classes were conducted only from the first to the fourth grade and about 150 students belonging to the Sinhalese and Tamil communities studied there. Mr. R.M. Gunathilaka served as the first principal. During the administration of Mr. Epathilaka, who was the principal around 1937, a senior section was also established, ending the era of being limited to the junior section only.
